Essay

This fantastic novel was written by Linda Sue Park. In this book, you will embark on a superb journey through south Sudan with Salva as well as listening to Nyas story and how they connect. In this Essay, I will be focusing on Salva as he has a larger part in this book. Let's start at the start where Salva still had a simple life.
In chapter one, Salva age 11 life was simple herding cattle using his bow to shoot at small game. It was his turn to go to school this year, he would walk to school early because it was a half-hour walk to school. One day at school Salva was working when he heard shots outside when outside he was told to run to the bushes. when Salva reached the bushes this marked the start of his journey. He was told to continue east as the fighting would follow. In chapter 2 Salva continues to walk east slipping in and out of groups of other people walking and still not knowing where he was walking to. while also desperately looking for his family.
Over the next few chapters, Salva finds a friend Merial as well as his uncle Jewiir. Over time uncle Jewiir came to be the leader of the group which helped Salva a lot as the rest of the group wishes to leave Salva because he is young and could slow them down. In these few chapters, you can see how much Salva's caricature has developed due to the hardships he has faced. Hideing in the shadows so Slava could listen in on the older people talking Salva found out that they were heading for Itang a refugee camp. Uncle Jewiir was always onest with Salva so he knew how hard this journey would be.
Soon Salva arrived at a river and knowing that most of the group couldn't swim and there were crocodiles in the water the group worked together on weaving boat's witch fascinated Salva. after the river, Salva entered the desert witch beat him down many times but nearly at the end some men came and shot uncle Jewiir
